Paper Plane Coffee Co. is not directly located in New York, it takes a 40-minute train ride from there to get to Montclair, but it’s definitely worth a visit for several reasons. On one hand it gives you the chance to get to know the a ‘small town’ cafe atmosphere besides the big city rush, on the other hand their own roasted coffees are amazing. I tasted a Colombian Gesha (La Palma Y El Tucan – lactic fermented Gesha), when I was there, which was simply wonderful with its fruity complex aromas.
Spacious, bright coffee shop with white walls and wooden interiors. They have a separate part of the counter, where they prepare filter coffee and if you sit there, you can follow the entire coffee preparation process. At the rear section of the cafe the roaster is located.
The baristas are really nice, helpful and always smiling, which makes the guests delighted as well, most of whom they welcome as regulars.

Approximately 150 years ago, high up in the Colombian Mountains, just below the Paper Plains, our story began. Paper Plane Coffee Co. was started in 2015. We are proud to bring you our family legacy in the form of freshly roasted coffee. The name Paper Plane is a play on words, coined from our secondary farm higher in the plains of the mountain where eucalyptus is grown for the national paper company. Thus, making them the Paper Plains.
With a focus on specialty coffee, our goal is to blend traditional values with third wave concepts, while maintaining fair green coffee purchasing and eco-friendly practices.’
